My background...

I was born and raised in Hubli, Karnataka. I completed a bachelor’s degree in electronics followed by a bachelor’s degree in education. I joined this school in 2021 and have now been teaching at this school for 3 years. I teach science to students in grades 4 through 7.

What inspired me to become a teacher...

My mother was a teacher. She is retired now. She was from an underprivileged community. During her time, it was a lot more difficult to get qualified as a teacher than it is now. There are many more opportunities and avenues to get qualified now and build a career, so she encouraged me to pursue teaching.

My approach to teaching...

I try to relate the material I am teaching to the students’ daily experiences - what they see, hear, feel.  I teach the theory behind what they experience in practice. This way they can relate easily to even difficult concepts.

My Aikyam experience...

Initially was a difficult to follow but we, as teachers, discussed among ourselves and with our principal on how to guide the students. A program like Aikyam can really help the students take actions on issues in their community that they are aware of but do not focus on or know that they can contribute towards a solution. Through Aikyam they are discovering it. They are conducting serious discussions, deciding for themselves how to do a given task and keeping each other accountable when discussions go off track. These are valuable skills for them to develop.
