My background and how I became a teacher...
I have completed B. Com Computers and B. Ed Social Science and English. After I completed by bachelor’s degree, I looked for a job right away so I could support my family. When I started my career, it seemed like teaching was the only option I had. Now that I have been a teacher for several years, I really love it. I enjoy interacting with the children, guiding them, counseling them, and finding ways to help them if they are facing challenges.
My experience as a teacher...
I have been teaching since 2011. I teach social studies to students in grades 4 and 5. Teaching has become my passion. I believe that teaching is a learning process – I learn new things every day and transfer that knowledge to my students. I have 2 kids studying in the same school, one in grade 6 and the other entering nursery.
About my school...
Hippocampus School Rangapur used to be NATCO High School. It became part of Hippocampus two years ago. This school has very good facilities. I am proud to be a teacher at this school. The children that attend this school come from different backgrounds, many of them coming from rural areas.
My role model...
The person who inspired me to work as a teacher is my English teacher in high school. She was very supportive and helped us in many ways, even beyond teaching. She herself had a challenging life being a widow with 3 daughters and 1 son. Yet she was able to help her students in many ways, including financial support for poor students and providing transportation when needed.
My interests outside teaching...
When I am not teaching, I listen to music and like to dance. I also play with my kids when I have free time. When I feel they need to relax and do something fun besides focusing on academics we dance. I am also pursuing a master’s degree in political science.
My Aikyam experience...
Aikyam is a very good program. This school has many clubs like cooking club, coding club etc. but Aikyam is very different. The students are responding very well showing great interest and enthusiasm for the activities. As facilitators, we are also very interested in the program. The activities show that the children are very aware and are capable of thinking about things happening in their communities that they are normally not expected to. They are learning new skills by participating in activities where they are interacting with people in their communities and explaining things to them. They are also coming up with very creative solutions.
