I am Neha Ramesh, and I am originally from Karnataka. I completed my graduation with a BSc in Psychology, Criminology, and Human Development in Hassan, and I am currently pursuing my MSc through Open University Mysore. While many others in my circle chose careers as doctors or engineers, I specifically wanted a different path. I have now been working as a teacher for a year and a half, a role that allows me to serve children and work alongside others who share my passion.
Becoming a teacher was my childhood dream. I used to imagine myself going to work wearing a nice saree and carrying a handbag. Beyond that image, I believe teaching is a noble profession because it allows me to act as a guide, helping children in their quest for knowledge without any expectations. In my own classroom, I strive to keep students engaged through unique teaching methods, such as daily ice-breaking activities, physical movements like clapping, and activity-based learning rather than just theoretical knowledge.
I have been shaped by several influential role models in my life:
My School Secretary: A strict but sweet lady who first inspired me to enter this profession.
My College Math Lecturer: He taught me the value of service by providing extra tuitions to 20 students completely free of charge.
My Mother: She encouraged my career choice and has always guided me on the difference between right and wrong.
My involvement with the Aikyam program began as a "lucky accident" when I was asked to replace a teacher who had to drop out for health reasons. It has been a deeply rewarding experience; I currently lead an Aikyam club of 12 studentsfrom grades 7 and 8. To foster leadership, I split the students into four teams, ensuring each group has a returning student from the previous year to help guide the new members.
The program encourages students to identify and solve problems within their own communities, and their excitement to participate and compete between groups is truly inspiring. Working with Aikyam has also helped me grow personally; I have become more aware of the problems in my own community and am learning how to better contribute to advancing the conditions where I live.
